Do I need any special tickets to watch the NASA Space Shuttle launch?

Obviously you'll be able to see if from far away, but on the videos I always see people watching from near the big countdown clock. Anyone know how that works? Is that IN the Space Center, do I need to pay or get tickets etc... to get there? Thanks!
